The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Oliver Alawuba, has reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting the Republic of Benin’s strategic economic growth through sustained backing for key infrastructure and development projects.
Alawuba made this known during a high-level strategic working visit to Benin on January 28, 2026.
The one-day visit, which centred on strengthening relationships with the Beninese government, major corporate clients and UBA’s internal team, highlighted the bank’s integrated approach to driving sustainable economic growth.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Benin’s Senior Minister of Finance, Economy and Cooperation, Romuald Wadagni, Alawuba outlined UBA’s ongoing and future support for the government’s transformative infrastructure and development initiatives.
“Our presence in Benin is that of a committed stakeholder, and we see our role as a catalyst that will continue to collaborate in turning the vision of Benin’s strategic development plans into a tangible, bankable reality,” he said.
He also expressed UBA’s appreciation to the Benin government for its continued partnership, specifically acknowledging the allocation of land to UBA Benin as compensation for its former main branch acquired for public use.
