Adamu Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State.
His resignation comes shortly after Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that has significantly altered the political landscape in the state.
In a resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to the governor through the Secretary to the State Government, Adamu formally stepped down after serving two terms in office. He expressed appreciation to Governor Fintiri for the trust reposed in him throughout his tenure.
“I remain profoundly grateful for the confidence and trust Your Excellency reposed in me throughout my tenure,” he stated, while also thanking the people of Adamawa State for their support.
Adamu was notably absent from the group of senior state officials who followed the governor to the APC, indicating a deliberate political decision amid the unfolding realignments.
During his time in office, he described his role as commissioner as “an honour of immense significance,” reaffirming his respect for the governor’s leadership and commitment to the development of Adamawa State.
The resignation marks a key development in the aftermath of Governor Fintiri’s defection, as observers continue to assess its broader political implications.
