Era of Reactive Warfare Over: Army Chief Orders Nationwide Offensive, Says No Safe Haven for Terrorists

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has declared that terrorists and violent extremists will find no sanctuary anywhere within Nigeria’s territory, warning that the era of reactive military engagements is over.

Speaking during his maiden operational visit to the 4 Special Forces Command in Doma, Nasarawa State, the Army Chief directed troops to intensify and sustain high-impact operations aimed at decisively defeating terrorists and insurgents across the country.

Lieutenant General Shaibu stressed that the Nigerian Army Special Forces remain at the forefront of a determined campaign to dismantle and neutralise criminal networks threatening national security. Addressing personnel of the 4 Special Forces Command and the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Doma, he underscored the strategic importance of precision-driven, intelligence-led operations in dominating the battlespace.

The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, said the COAS charged troops to remain proactive, adaptive, and mission-focused. He noted that the evolving security environment demands speed, surprise, and superior combat readiness.

Earlier during the visit, the Army Chief received detailed operational briefings from the Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command, Major General Olurotimi Azubuike Awolo, and the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Brigadier General Umar Faruk Abubakar.

Lieutenant General Shaibu expressed satisfaction with the Command’s operational outlook and training standards. He also approved the immediate construction of additional accommodation blocks and critical facilities to strengthen training capacity, enhance operational efficiency, and improve troop welfare.
