Gunmen Abduct Cocoa Farmers in Ibadan, Police Rescue One

Six gunmen on Wednesday abducted four cocoa farmers at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria located in the Idi-Ayunre area of Ibadan.

Reports from the News Agency of Nigeria indicate that some of the victims were visiting the institute for a familiarisation exercise at the time of the incident.

A farmer who escaped said the attackers suddenly emerged from the bush and intercepted their vehicle while they were heading to the Nursing Section within the institute.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that one of the four kidnapped victims had been rescued and his vehicle recovered.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, had ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to support the Divisional Police Officer in Idi-Ayunre.

According to the police, operatives have launched an intensive bush-combing operation in the area. The rescued victim is currently in safe custody and undergoing debriefing, while efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend the kidnappers.
