Nollywood actor Daniel Etim Effiong has sparked widespread conversation online after sharing his perspective on the hierarchy of love within his family, revealing that his relationship with his wife takes priority over his children.
Speaking during a recent appearance on the Masplantion Podcast, the actor explained that while he deeply loves his children, he believes that a strong marriage should come first because it forms the foundation of a healthy family.
According to him, the stability of a home largely depends on the strength of the bond between husband and wife, which ultimately benefits the children.
“I mean, that’s a good question. I would say yes. I love my wife more than my children,” he said during the conversation.
“My wife comes first before my children, although they have a really special place in my heart.”
Etim Effiong noted that prioritizing his wife does not diminish the affection he has for his children. Rather, he believes that placing the marital relationship first helps create a stable and nurturing environment for raising them.
The actor’s remarks have since triggered mixed reactions across social media, with some users agreeing that a strong marriage should be the cornerstone of family life, while others argued that children should naturally take precedence in a parent’s priorities.
Etim Effiong married media personality Toyosi Phillips in 2017, and the couple have since built a family together while maintaining active careers in Nigeria’s entertainment and media industries.
His comments have reignited broader conversations about marriage, parenting, and family dynamics, with many weighing in on whether a spouse or children should come first in the structure of a modern family.
