The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has dismantled multiple drug joints across Kano State and arrested 56 suspects during a three-day operation, the agency confirmed on Wednesday.
The operation, part of the ongoing “Operation Ramadan Mubarak”, was aimed at ensuring a safe and drug-free environment in Kano during and after the festive period. According to the Command’s Spokesman, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the raids targeted notorious drug locations in Kofar Mata, Fagge, Kasuwar Rimi, Medile, Badawa, and Sabon Gari, and extended to other areas within and outside the Kano metropolis.
“The operation continues earlier enforcement efforts to sustain pressure on criminal networks that have long operated in these communities. The focused action was designed to disrupt drug distribution channels and restore safety to neighborhoods affected by drug-related activities,” Muhammad-Maigatari quoted State Commander Mr. Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal as saying.
During the raids, operatives seized various illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, Exol-5, diazepam, pregabalin, and other controlled drugs, alongside related paraphernalia. Yahaya-Lawal noted that the seizure dealt a significant blow to local drug supply networks and demonstrated the command’s resolve to rid communities of illicit substances.
In a notable development, one of the suspects arrested, 30-year-old Yunusa Yasin of Badawa, was reportedly linked to a homicide case from five years ago. He has been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Yahaya-Lawal reiterated the command’s commitment to achieving a drug-free Kano, in line with the agenda of NDLEA Chairman and CEO, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa, and urged the public to continue providing information on drug-related activities to aid enforcement efforts.
“Community cooperation is vital in our fight against illicit drugs. We call on residents to assist us in safeguarding Kano,” he added.
