Nigeria’s gospel music community and Nollywood industry are mourning the passing of veteran singer and soundtrack voice, Onos Brisibi, who died at the age of 55 following a prolonged illness.
Brisibi, celebrated for her powerful and distinctive vocals in classic Nollywood productions such as Domitilla and Blood Money, passed away on March 23, 2026.
Her death was confirmed on Thursday through a heartfelt Instagram tribute by veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD.
In his tribute, Mofe-Damijo described Brisibi as a devoted Christian and gifted songstress whose music deeply impacted lives. He praised her unique ability to minister through music, noting that her voice transcended performance to inspire and uplift listeners spiritually.
“Her voice didn’t just sing; it ministered, lifting hearts and drawing people closer to God,” he wrote, while also recalling her warm and playful personality.
Born on November 20, 1970, to the late Apostle Ambrose Oproze Brisibi and Deaconess Mary Koko Brisibi of Aladja in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, the late singer remained committed to her faith and ministry throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah; her mother; siblings; extended family members; and her church community at LoveWorld Ministries.
Mofe-Damijo concluded his tribute with a message of comfort, stating that while her passing leaves deep sorrow, her legacy of music and faith will continue to resonate.
“The tears are many, but the memories are even more. We are comforted that she is finally resting with the Lord. Rest in perfect peace, Onos. You were truly loved,” he said.
Brisibi’s death marks the loss of a distinctive voice in Nollywood’s golden era, leaving behind a legacy of music that touched hearts and strengthened faith across generations.
