The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Ishaq Oloyede, has clarified that the examination body should not be blamed for the failure of some Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates to be mobilised for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Oloyede made the clarification during a meeting with the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), following growing concerns among polytechnic graduates who claim that JAMB is responsible for their inability to participate in the national service scheme.
According to him, JAMB does not manage admissions into HND programmes, explaining that such admissions are handled directly by polytechnics and other tertiary institutions. As a result, the board does not maintain the records required to process HND graduates for NYSC mobilisation.
The JAMB registrar further explained that many of the affected graduates had earlier obtained their National Diploma through part-time or irregular programmes before proceeding to full-time HND studies. Such inconsistencies in admission records, he said, can create complications during the NYSC mobilisation process.
Oloyede also warned institutions against conducting admissions outside JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), stressing that irregular admission procedures could create serious challenges for students after graduation.
The clarification comes amid rising concerns from polytechnic graduates across the country who have been unable to take part in the NYSC scheme due to discrepancies linked to their admission history.
