Tottenham Hotspur have begun discussions with Roberto De Zerbi over the club’s vacant managerial position following the departure of Igor Tudor.
Tudor left Spurs by mutual consent on Sunday, ending his brief 44-day spell in charge as interim manager. His exit followed the club’s 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, a result that left Tottenham dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Club chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange are now spearheading the search for a permanent replacement, with De Zerbi understood to be the leading candidate. The Italian coach, who recently left Olympique de Marseille, is currently available and has emerged as Tottenham’s primary target.
Reports indicate that Tottenham had already made initial enquiries about De Zerbi’s interest before Tudor’s departure was formally confirmed. While the former Brighton manager is said to be open to the role, he would reportedly prefer to delay a final decision until the end of the season, when the club’s Premier League status becomes clearer. Even so, talks are ongoing over the possibility of him taking charge before the campaign concludes.
Tottenham are also said to be willing to offer De Zerbi a long-term contract as they seek to restore stability after a difficult and uncertain period.
However, the potential appointment has not been without controversy, with some sections of the Spurs fanbase reportedly uneasy over De Zerbi’s previous public support for former footballer Mason Greenwood.
Tudor’s departure, while linked to performances on the pitch, was reportedly handled with care following the recent death of his father, with the club giving him time before finalising the decision.
Tottenham now enter a crucial stage of the season as they battle to preserve their top-flight status while also trying to secure a permanent managerial solution for the future.
