Tambuwal Exits PDP, Says Party Crisis Weakening Unity

Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal crises and deepening divisions within the opposition party.

Tambuwal, who currently represents Sokoto South Senatorial District in the Senate, formally communicated his resignation in a letter dated March 11 and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria explained that the ongoing leadership disagreements and internal conflicts within the party had made it increasingly difficult for him to remain actively committed as a member.

“The leadership disagreements and divisions within the party at various levels have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my active participation and commitment as a member,” he stated in the letter.

He added that the protracted disputes within the party had weakened the unity and direction that once defined it.

“The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party,” Tambuwal wrote.

Shortly after announcing his resignation in the early hours of Thursday, the lawmaker confirmed that he had officially registered with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to him, the decision followed careful consideration and extensive consultations with political associates and stakeholders.

Despite his exit, Tambuwal expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it provided him to serve the country in several key positions.

He noted that his move to the ADC was motivated by his belief that Nigeria requires a stronger political platform founded on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.
