Fresh controversy has erupted in Nigeria’s entertainment space following claims of financial hardship by veteran actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, widely known for his role in the iconic TV series Papa Ajasco and Company.
In a swift response, veteran producer Wale Adenuga and his outfit, Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP), dismissed the claims, insisting the actor has benefitted significantly from his long-standing association with the company.
In an official statement, WAP disclosed that Ayoyinka had, at different times, enjoyed material support, including being gifted a car alongside another colleague. The company further stated that the actor has used no fewer than five vehicles during his time with the production outfit, including a Mercedes-Benz.
The production house also revealed that, to its knowledge, the actor owns a house in Ogun State, casting doubt on the basis of his recent claims of financial distress.
Additionally, WAP pointed to Ayoyinka’s career outside the entertainment industry, noting that he served for over 30 years as a civil servant with the Lagos State Government. The statement questioned what became of his retirement benefits and other financial gains accrued during that period.
The company emphasized that actors involved in its productions are not restricted from pursuing other income-generating opportunities. It explained that filming for Papa Ajasco and Company typically spans only about six weeks annually, allowing ample time for other professional engagements.
Reaffirming its stance, WAP maintained that it has consistently fulfilled its financial obligations to its actors and collaborators, describing allegations of neglect or exploitation as misleading.
The development has since sparked widespread debate among fans and industry observers, reigniting conversations about welfare, compensation, and long-term financial planning within Nigeria’s entertainment sector.
