There was mild drama on Monday morning in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, after Senator Gbenga Daniel was reportedly denied access to the venue of the Ogun East Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The meeting, held at Adeola Odutola College, was disrupted briefly as party faithful were seen chanting “OGD! OGD!” in solidarity with the former governor, while one of his aides engaged individuals stationed at the locked gate.
In videos circulating online, Daniel was seen addressing supporters from his white coaster campaign bus branded “BAT/OGD Movement,” expressing displeasure over being denied entry.
“We are here for our Ogun East APC caucus meeting, but surprisingly, we have been barred. We are told that we can’t enter,” he said.
He further declared, “Let it be said that whatever they do here today is null and void.”
Checks revealed that the invitation for the emergency stakeholders’ meeting, issued by party leaders in Ijebu-Ode, listed key stakeholders expected to attend, including deputy governors, serving and former local government chairmen, councillors, as well as current and past members of the State and National Assemblies.
The incident has stirred political tension within the party in the state, as stakeholders await further clarification on the circumstances surrounding the restriction of access.
