Gunmen have killed a cleric, Pastor Emmanuel Ezeoikwe, during a night attack in Zinal village, Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at the victim’s residence.
Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the attack was reported to police at about 6:30 a.m.
According to him, suspected gunmen invaded the community around 12:48 a.m., shooting the victim before fleeing the scene.
Police operatives who arrived shortly after the report found the victim unconscious and rushed him to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor. His remains have since been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.
Nguroje added that three expended AK-47 shells were recovered at the scene as evidence.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, has ordered a discreet investigation and deployed tactical teams to track down those responsible for the attack.
The police also urged residents to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.
