Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised over 30 insurgents and destroyed multiple boats during a coordinated offensive along the Lake Chad waterways near the Kaniram Island axis in Borno State.
The operation, carried out between Tuesday night and early Wednesday, targeted terrorist logistics networks linked to ISWAP, according to a statement by Lt Col Sani Uba, spokesperson for the North-East Joint Task Force.
Acting on intelligence, the air component of the operation conducted precision strikes after detecting a concentration of more than 30 boats being used for movement and resupply.
“Persistent surveillance confirmed the presence of terrorist elements coordinating logistics activities. Precision air strikes destroyed several boats and disrupted their operations,” the statement said.
Follow-up strikes, guided by real-time intelligence, also hit fleeing insurgents, resulting in significant casualties and weakening their operational mobility.
In a related strike at Sowolwolo in the Sambisa Forest axis, troops destroyed three gun trucks and recorded further losses among terrorist fighters, with reports of mass burial activities in the Mallam Fatori area.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation Enduring Peace neutralised two armed gunmen during a separate ambush operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to Capt Chinonso Oteh, the operation followed credible intelligence on criminal movements in the Marit area. Troops engaged the suspects near Doruwa Babuje, killing two while others fled.
Recovered items included a locally fabricated rifle, ammunition, and other weapons.
Despite the military gains, violence persists in Plateau, where suspected bandits killed two residents in a night attack on Kuru community in Jos South Local Government Area.
Residents expressed concern over the recurring attacks, calling for stronger security presence and improved intelligence gathering to protect vulnerable communities.
Security authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining operations across affected regions to prevent regrouping by insurgents and criminal elements.
