Police Bust Kidnap Ring in Ondo, Rescue Victim in Swift Intelligence-Led Operation

The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued an abducted victim in a coordinated operation in Isua-Akoko, Akoko South-East Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed the development in a statement issued Tuesday in Akure, noting that the breakthrough followed a report filed on April 10.

According to Jimoh, a resident identified as Ahmadu had alerted police at the Isua Division that two young men who had travelled to Ipesi-Akoko for cattle rearing went missing, with only one returning home.

Acting swiftly, police operatives launched an intelligence-driven operation that led to the successful rescue of the victim and the arrest of one suspect.

“The victim revealed he was abducted at night by three armed men. While resisting, he managed to inflict a head injury on one of his captors,” Jimoh said.

Leveraging the information, officers stormed Obasanjo Motor Park in Isua-Akoko in the early hours of the following day, where they apprehended a suspect with a visible head wound.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being part of the kidnapping gang. The victim later identified him, citing the injury sustained during the struggle.

The rescued victim has since been taken to a hospital for treatment, while the suspect has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation. Police say he will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, commended residents for providing timely and actionable intelligence, stressing that community collaboration remains critical in tackling crime.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent offences across the state, urging the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement efforts.
