The Nigeria Police Force has rolled out enhanced security measures across the country ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), assuring candidates of their safety during the exercise.
The nationwide examination, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), is scheduled to commence on April 16.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, dismissed circulating reports alleging threats to candidates at some examination centres, describing them as baseless and unfounded.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to categorically state that these claims are without basis,” he said, adding that while the Force does not act on rumours, public concerns especially those affecting students’ safety are taken seriously.
To ensure a hitch-free exercise, the police have deployed additional personnel to examination centres nationwide, including rapid response teams positioned at strategic locations.
According to Placid, the security architecture includes both overt and covert operations, routine patrols, and perimeter surveillance aimed at preventing any disruption.
He further revealed that the police are working in collaboration with other security agencies to proactively monitor and address potential threats.
“Any individual or group attempting to disrupt the examination process will be swiftly identified and brought to justice,” he warned.
The police also urged candidates to comply with all examination guidelines, arrive early at their centres, and promptly report any suspicious activity to security personnel on ground.
Parents and the general public were advised to disregard unverified information circulating on social media and rely only on official updates from the police and JAMB.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Force assured Nigerians of adequate protection throughout the examination period, emphasizing its role in safeguarding national activities and public confidence.
