Nigerian music star Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has revealed that a personal meeting with global superstar Rihanna played a key role in rebuilding her confidence during a difficult period of low self-esteem.
Speaking in a recent interview with W Magazine, the 23-year-old singer said she was going through self-image struggles in 2024 before the unexpected encounter with the Barbadian icon.
Ayra Starr recounted that Rihanna watched her music videos alongside her and pointed out her favourite moments, a gesture she described as deeply validating and surreal.
“I was sitting with her while we watched my music videos. The fact that she was pointing out her favourite parts felt so unreal,” she said.
She added that the moment came at a time when she was battling insecurity about her image and artistic identity, making the experience even more impactful.
“At that time I was struggling with my self-image and confidence, so that moment meant everything. It felt like God had sent her,” Ayra Starr added.
The singer also noted that Rihanna expressed admiration for her work and hinted at openness to a potential collaboration in the future.
