Terror Attack Foiled in Kwara as Troops Repel Gunmen, Three Soldiers Killed

Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully repelled an early morning attack by suspected terrorists in Kemanji community, Kaiama area of Kwara State, preventing the assailants from overrunning the settlement.

The development was confirmed by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in a statement shared on his official X account.

According to the governor, the attack occurred around 3:00 a.m., with troops engaging the attackers and stopping their advance into the community. He disclosed that several of the assailants were neutralised during the operation, while an attempted kidnapping was also thwarted.

However, the encounter came at a heavy cost, as three soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty.

“My sincere condolences are with the families and loved ones of these great men who have paid the supreme price,” the governor said, while pledging continued support for affected families and renewed efforts to strengthen security across the state.

Despite the successful repulsion of the હુમ, the incident has sparked criticism from residents, with many questioning the government’s approach to security.

Some commentators on social media argued that the response appeared reactive rather than preventive. An X user, Nura, described the situation as a failure of proactive security planning, while another resident, Adeyemi Ishola, criticised what he termed a lack of visible leadership presence in addressing security challenges.

Similarly, Tunde Adeniji called on the government to move beyond condolence messages and implement more effective strategies to prevent future attacks.
