Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have neutralised two armed gunmen during a successful ambush operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, carried out on Tuesday near Doruwa Babuje in the Marit general area, followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected criminals linked to attacks on surrounding communities.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Jos by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the troops engaged the suspects at about 7:49 p.m. after tracking their movements.
According to the statement, the gunmen were believed to be responsible for a series of violent crimes, including armed robbery and sexual assault within the area.
“Upon sighting the criminals, troops sprang a successful ambush on the marauders. In the ensuing firefight, two armed gunmen were neutralised, while others fled into nearby bushes,” the statement said.
Items recovered from the scene include one locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.
The task force confirmed that troops remain deployed in Marit and Lajam communities to sustain security presence and protect residents, while efforts continue to track down fleeing suspects.
Operation Enduring Peace reaffirmed its commitment to restoring stability in Plateau communities and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
