UNILAG Student Tells Court Lecturer Allegedly Assaulted Her in Campus Office

A 20-year-old undergraduate of the University of Lagos has told a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja how a lecturer, Samuel Ojogbo, allegedly sexually assaulted her in his office on the institution’s Akoka campus.

The student, who testified as the first prosecution witness before Justice Oyindamola Ogala, narrated the incident during proceedings led by prosecution counsel A. O. Azeez.

Ojogbo, 53, is being prosecuted by the Lagos State Government on a two-count charge bordering on alleged rape and sexual assault.

According to the witness, the incident occurred on August 22, 2025, around noon after the lecturer invited her to his office following an earlier interaction during an examination the previous day.

She told the court that after unsuccessfully attempting to meet him twice, she later encountered him near her faculty and accompanied him to his office.

Describing the office as secluded and underground, the witness said two female students briefly entered during their meeting but were sent away by the lecturer.

She alleged that shortly after the students left, the lecturer asked her to shut the door and then assaulted her.

The undergraduate further told the court that the defendant later made promises regarding her academic future, including offering to supervise her final-year project, before collecting her phone number and making a copy of her examination docket.

She said she left the office in tears and immediately informed a friend before reporting the matter to members of the university community.

According to her testimony, the case was first reported internally to departmental authorities but was not initially pursued, prompting her family to escalate the matter to the institution’s Servicom office and later to relevant agencies.

She said the matter was subsequently referred to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, the police, and later the Gender Unit of the command for investigation.

The witness also alleged that associates of the defendant later attempted to seek an out-of-court settlement.

Following her testimony, Justice Ogala adjourned the matter to April 27, 2026, for cross-examination of the witness.
