The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of social media personality and blogger Chidiebere Mark, popularly known as “Justice Crack,” in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Mark was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime and was subsequently ordered to remain in DSS custody.
According to the DSS, the defendant is accused of making false and defamatory statements about Nigerian Army personnel, alleging in a viral video posted on his X account (@JusticeCrack) that soldiers were poorly fed. Authorities say the post was capable of damaging the reputation of the Nigerian Army and disturbing public peace.
The charges also include breach of public peace and felony. When the charges were read in court, Mark pleaded not guilty.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, Mr. E. Orubo, requested a trial date and urged the court to keep the defendant in DSS custody pending the hearing of the case.
However, defence counsel, Mr. Marshall Abubakar, made an oral bail application, which was rejected by the court. The judge held that bail must be formally applied for through the proper legal process.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik subsequently ordered that Mark remain in DSS custody and adjourned the case until May 25, 2026, for commencement of trial.
