Guardiola Urges Man City Response Against Brentford as Premier League Title Race Intensifies

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has called on his players to respond strongly against Brentford on Saturday as they continue their pursuit of Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

City’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton on Monday shifted control of the title race firmly into Arsenal’s hands. The Gunners now sit five points clear at the top of the table with three matches left to play, while City still have four fixtures remaining.

A victory for Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium against Champions League-chasing Brentford would reduce the gap temporarily and place pressure back on Arsenal ahead of their clash with West Ham.

“Put pressure on Arsenal by winning our games,” Guardiola said during his pre-match press conference on Friday. “That’s all we have to do. All we can do.”

Manchester City appeared destined for defeat at Everton before Jeremy Doku rescued a point with a stunning late equaliser at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Belgian winger scored twice in the encounter, taking his tally to four goals in his last five matches and recording his most productive scoring season for City with seven goals.

“I’m so glad,” Guardiola said while praising Doku’s recent performances. “Not just the goals, the assists, also contributing defensively. Jeremy has been amazing this season.”

Although a seventh Premier League title in nine seasons may now be difficult to secure, Manchester City celebrated success elsewhere this week after the club’s women’s team won their first Women’s Super League title in a decade.

Under manager Andree Jeglertz, City ended Chelsea’s dominance after the London side had won six consecutive league crowns.

Guardiola also praised the growth and impact of women’s football globally.

“Today is a reality in the world of football, the impact of the women’s team on society and the girls, how they enjoy playing football,” he said.

“I think it’s the biggest step world football has made in the last decade. Before it started, I think you never could imagine the impact on girls and teenagers that now say, ‘I want to play football.’

“As much as you play a sport, it’s fantastic. And of course, a big compliment to the City women’s team.”

The City boss also provided positive updates on his squad ahead of Saturday’s match, revealing that midfielder Rodri could return from injury, while defenders Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol are both close to full fitness.
