Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has expressed concern over the growing rate of sexual harassment in Nigeria, describing the situation as one that has become normalised and largely ignored in some parts of the country.
Speaking during an interview with Tolu Afilaka, the actress lamented the frequent but undocumented cases of harassment women experience in crowded marketplaces and busy public spaces, especially in Lagos.
According to her, many women are subjected to inappropriate touching in public areas such as Yaba, yet little or nothing is done to address the issue.
“Do you know how bad sexual harassment is in Lagos? Go to Yaba as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately. Everybody hearing this knows it is true, but till today, nothing is being done about it,” she said.
Shine questioned the safety of women in the country, stressing that if such acts can happen openly during the day without consequences, more dangerous situations could occur in private spaces.
She also argued that women should have the right to defend themselves if authorities fail to take meaningful action against offenders.
“In 2026, in a country like Nigeria, sexual harassment is still treated as one of the most passive issues. If a man can sexually harass you casually during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?” she added.
