President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the incoming Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). He is expected to officially take over from Professor Is-haq Oloyede after the completion of his second and final tenure on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, Aina’s appointment is part of efforts to sustain and deepen ongoing reforms within the examination body.
The Presidency said the new registrar is expected to build on the achievements recorded under Oloyede, while also introducing stronger technology-driven innovations and institutional improvements to enhance efficiency and credibility in the conduct of examinations.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Aina’s ability to deliver, noting that his background and professional experience make him well suited to take JAMB to the next level in line with ongoing reforms in the education sector.
Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, is known for his expertise in digital systems, examination technologies, and public-sector innovation. He holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
The statement added that Aina’s connection with JAMB dates back to his NYSC service year, when he first worked with the board and gained early exposure to national admissions and data systems. At just 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is set to become the youngest-ever JAMB Registrar. He has also served as a consultant to examination bodies such as NECO and NABTEB, where he focused on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process improvements.
