Anambra Arraigns Eight Pastors Over Alleged Violation of Homeland Security Law

The Anambra State Government has arraigned eight pastors who were arrested in different parts of the state, including Onitsha and Awka, before the state judiciary complex in Awka.

The clerics were brought before the court following their arrest over alleged violations of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, 2025.

According to Mr. Ejimofor Opara, Media Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State, the individuals were described as “fake pastors” accused of engaging in practices considered harmful to public order, particularly those linked to wealth creation narratives.

The Homeland Security Law, which came into effect in February 2025, reportedly frowns at certain religious practices deemed inimical to public interest. Authorities say the law is aimed at curbing activities linked to get-rich-quick schemes and related conduct.

In previous enforcement actions, some native doctors accused of promoting similar practices were also arrested, with some already prosecuted and jailed while others are still facing trial.

The eight pastors arraigned include Peter Chukwu, Chinedu Egwuonwu, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, Ebele Nnachukwu, Ekeleme Chris Ugochukwu, Ndubisi Nnachukwu, Miracle Iruoma, and Chukwukadibia Ogwuama. The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN), is leading the prosecution in the case.
