Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has pledged to sanction the biggest transfer fee in the club’s history if he is re-elected on Sunday, hinting at a major summer signing as part of a renewed “Galácticos” project.
Speaking ahead of the election, Pérez said the club is preparing an ambitious bid for a top player from a leading European side, with formal negotiations expected to begin in the coming days.
“On Tuesday or so, I’m going to make an offer to a major Champions League club for a great player. It would be the largest transfer fee Real Madrid has ever paid in its history,” he said.
He added that the target is an attacking player, but refused to reveal the identity. Pérez also ruled out several names linked with the club in recent speculation, including Michael Olise, Jérémy Doku, Harry Kane, and Erling Haaland.
The Real Madrid president further stated that the player is not based in the Premier League and suggested the deal could be worth around €150 million. He indicated that the profile is a midfielder with strong attacking qualities capable of contributing in advanced positions.
Pérez described the planned move as one designed to excite supporters, saying it is intended to generate enthusiasm among fans. The election comes after a challenging season for Real Madrid, who ended the campaign without a major trophy for the second consecutive year and trailed rivals Barcelona in La Liga. Nearly 100,000 club members are expected to vote on Sunday, deciding whether Pérez continues his long tenure or is replaced by challenger Enrique Riquelme.
