Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has admitted that the continued presence of roaming cattle on major roads and streets in Abuja remains a challenge, offering an apology to residents and taking responsibility for the situation.
Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike acknowledged public concerns over the movement of livestock within the city, saying the administration is aware of the problem and remains committed to finding a lasting solution.
“I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja. I take responsibility,” the minister said, while assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to address the issue and improve the capital's environment.
Beyond the cattle issue, Wike highlighted several infrastructure projects being carried out across the Federal Capital Territory. He explained that development efforts are not limited to the city centre but are also reaching communities in the six Area Councils through investments in roads, water supply and housing projects.
According to the minister, the ongoing projects are helping to improve access to communities and strengthen security across the territory. He maintained that residents can already feel the impact of various policies and initiatives introduced under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Wike also announced that the FCT Administration will embark on a 31-day project commissioning exercise beginning on June 8, 2026, as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third year in office. He said the inaugurations, which will be carried out in collaboration with the President, will showcase key projects completed across the territory.
