Kwara Teacher Abducted on Way to Work as Residents Raise Alarm Over Insecurity

A primary school teacher, Shina Adeoye, has been abducted by suspected terrorists along the Obbo-Ile–Eruku Road in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, raising fresh concerns about the security situation in the area.

Adeoye, a teacher at Cooperative Primary School, Eruku, was reportedly kidnapped on Thursday morning on his way to work. According to community sources, the attackers intercepted him along the road and took him to an unknown location.

As of the time of this report, his whereabouts remain unknown, while efforts are ongoing to secure his safe release. The incident has sparked fear among residents who say insecurity along the route has continued to worsen.

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity described the abduction as another indication of the growing threat posed by armed groups operating in the area. The resident also lamented the lack of adequate security presence along the Obbo-Ile–Eruku axis despite repeated appeals from community members.

“This road has become very dangerous. People travel with fear because there is hardly any visible security presence along the axis. We have raised concerns several times, but nothing seems to have changed,” the resident said.

Community members warned that motorists and other road users are increasingly vulnerable to attacks, urging the government and security agencies to take urgent action. The latest abduction comes months after suspected terrorists attacked Eruku community in November 2025, killing at least two people and injuring another. The Kwara State Police Command had confirmed the earlier attack, stating that security operatives and local vigilantes responded and forced the attackers to retreat into the bush.
