Serena Williams Set to Feature in Queen’s Club Doubles Event

Serena Williams has confirmed her return to professional tennis after an absence of almost four years, with the American legend set to feature in women’s doubles at Queen’s Club later this month.

The 44-year-old, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, last competed at the 2022 US Open, where she exited in the third round before stepping away from the sport.

She shared the news on social media with the caption “Good news travels fast,” alongside a video of herself on court wearing an all-white Nike tennis dress, while her phone buzzed in the background.

Williams’ possible comeback had been speculated since December, when she re-entered the sport’s anti-doping programme, a requirement for any player hoping to return to competition.

At the time, however, she dismissed rumours of a comeback, writing on social media: “Omg yall, I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy.”

The American, who holds the Open Era record for the most Grand Slam singles titles by a woman with 23, had said in 2022 that she was not “retiring” but rather “evolving” away from tennis, placing her second on the all-time list behind Australia’s Margaret Court, who has 24 major titles.
