The Northern Christian Association (NCA) has praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for the arrest of five suspects allegedly connected to the November 2025 abduction of students and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State.
In a statement issued on Monday, the association’s chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, said it is important for citizens to also acknowledge positive steps taken by government and security agencies, not just criticise when things go wrong.
He said the arrest of individuals allegedly involved in supplying arms to criminal groups shows the value of sustained intelligence work and coordinated efforts among security agencies in tackling insecurity across the country.
According to him, breaking up networks that provide weapons and logistics to criminals is key to weakening their capacity to carry out attacks on innocent people and vulnerable communities.
The NCA also commended the sacrifices of security personnel who continue to put their lives on the line in the fight against terrorism. It urged authorities to ensure thorough investigations and to make sure everyone connected to the crime is brought to justice, saying this would help discourage others from similar acts.
Rev. Hayab expressed confidence that stronger collaboration between security agencies, communities, and other stakeholders would help improve security in the country. He also called on the Federal Government to step up efforts against terrorism and other violent crimes in order to restore public confidence.
