The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading viral reports circulating on social media alleging that abducted pupils and teachers from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been released.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the police described the claims as “categorically false, misleading, and entirely unsubstantiated,” stressing that no such development had occurred.
The Command stated that as of the time of the statement, there was no confirmation of the alleged release and urged members of the public to disregard the reports in their entirety.
It reassured residents and families of the victims that coordinated rescue operations are still actively ongoing, with security agencies working to ensure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
According to the police, operatives are “working tirelessly, deploying all available human and operational resources” to secure the release of the victims, reunite them with their families, and bring those responsible to justice.
The Command also warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that such false narratives could cause unnecessary panic, heighten public anxiety, and undermine ongoing security operations, while reaffirming its commitment to providing timely and accurate updates as developments unfold.
