Mr. Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to invite Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to provide details on those allegedly behind the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Ibe made the call in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, stating that if Igboho possesses credible information about the kidnappers, security agencies should engage him to support ongoing efforts to secure the release of the victims.
His reaction followed comments made by Igboho during a meeting with members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), where the activist claimed he knew politicians behind the abductions and threatened to expose them if the attacks continued.
Ibe also urged that all available options be explored to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students and teachers. He, however, questioned the Federal Government’s response to the reported abduction of more than 50 schoolchildren in Mussa, Borno State, last month.
He accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of remaining silent on the Borno incident and asked why similar urgency was not being applied to victims of abductions in other parts of the country. He further questioned when the government would deploy similar interventions, such as forest security measures, to other vulnerable states.
In his statement, Ibe wrote that security agencies should invite Igboho to substantiate his claims, stressing the need for swift action to secure the release of abducted victims. He also raised broader concerns about insecurity, asking when federal authorities would take more decisive steps to address recurring attacks across Nigeria.
