Suspect Says Ex-OGTV Broadcaster Was Killed to ‘Teach Her a Lesson’

The Ogun State Police Command has revealed that the prime suspect in the alleged murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, confessed that the attack was planned to "teach her a lesson."

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this during a press briefing held on Thursday at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

DIP CONNECTS Online News had earlier reported that police launched an investigation after a concerned resident alerted authorities over suspicious activities at Oyesiku’s residence.

According to reports, detectives who arrived at the scene discovered signs of forced entry into the house. The body of the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, was found inside the security post, while Oyesiku’s lifeless body was later discovered in the living room of the residence.

Police also confirmed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330, which had initially been reported missing, was later recovered through ongoing investigative efforts.

Giving an update on the case, Commissioner Ojajuni explained that investigators found a handwritten note inside the recovered vehicle, which became a crucial breakthrough in solving the crime.

Following forensic analysis of the note, detectives traced and arrested the principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, on June 24, 2026, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was employed as a labourer.

Ojajuni said subsequent operations led to the arrest of two additional suspects identified as 27-year-old Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a security guard, and 36-year-old Sobu Obafunsho, a bricklayer.

"Further intelligence gathering and painstaking investigation led to the identification and arrest of the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, aged 22, on June 24, 2026, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta.

"Further follow-up operations by detectives of the Command also resulted in the successful arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, aged 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, aged 36, bringing all identified members of the criminal conspiracy into custody," the commissioner stated.

According to the police commissioner, Philip admitted during interrogation that he masterminded the attack because of grievances he allegedly held against the deceased from the period he worked as her security guard.

Ojajuni said the suspect confessed that the murder was intended to "teach her a lesson."

"During interrogation, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip confessed to participating in the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku. He also admitted recruiting Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho to execute the crime.

"According to his confessional statement, he coordinated the attack following grievances he had against the deceased while serving as her security guard.

"The suspect specifically stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was meant to 'teach her a lesson'," Ojajuni said.

The commissioner further explained that the suspects allegedly carried out the attack on June 20, 2026, after overpowering the late security guard and using him to gain access to the residence.

"The suspects first subdued Pelumi Adetayo, the security guard, and forced their way into the residence. Once inside, they attacked and killed Madam Olakitan Oyesiku before returning to murder the security guard.

"After carrying out the attack, they escaped with the deceased's Lexus RX 330 vehicle, which was later recovered through intelligence-led and technical tracking operations in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.

"The criminal conspiracy involving Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho eventually resulted in the deaths of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo," he added.

Ojajuni also disclosed that investigators recovered several exhibits linked to the crime from different locations associated with the suspects. These include a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank and a black pen.

He stressed that although the suspects had made confessional statements and investigators had gathered substantial evidence, the suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.

"The investigation is still ongoing as detectives continue to consolidate available evidence to ensure diligent prosecution of everyone connected to this crime.

"The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring justice is served and that all those involved in this heinous act are brought before the law," the commissioner concluded.
