US Deports Nigerian Citizen Over Criminal Convictions, Immigration Violations

The United States has deported a Nigerian national, Ayodeji Ajayi, following a series of criminal convictions, including domestic violence, as part of its ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws.

The development was disclosed by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a statement shared on its official X account on Tuesday.

According to the agency, Ajayi had remained in the United States unlawfully after entering the country on a student visa nearly 20 years ago.

ICE stated that Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi arrived in the US in 2007 on a student visa but later discontinued his studies and failed to leave the country as required by immigration regulations.

The agency noted that rather than departing after leaving school, Ajayi stayed in the United States and accumulated an extensive criminal record.

According to ICE, his convictions include offences such as domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation and obstruction. The agency further disclosed that his criminal history also involved charges relating to kidnapping, rape and family neglect.

The immigration agency linked the deportation to the enforcement policies of President Donald Trump, stating that the administration remained committed to removing undocumented immigrants with criminal records from the country.

In its statement, ICE said Ajayi would be removed from the United States as part of that effort.

While confirming the deportation, the agency did not specify the exact date the removal was carried out. It also did not provide additional information regarding the offences, including the locations where the convictions occurred or the legal outcome of the other criminal charges listed in his record.

The deportation comes amid continued immigration enforcement operations by the Trump administration, which has intensified actions against undocumented immigrants with criminal backgrounds across the United States.

Authorities have increasingly focused on identifying, detaining and removing individuals convicted of crimes as part of broader efforts to strengthen immigration enforcement nationwide.
