Empowering Women, Energizing Communities: President Tinubu Flags Off Renewed Hope Women’s Empowerment Programme in Delta State

Asaba, Delta State — In a landmark move to uplift Nigerian women and catalyze inclusive national development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially flagged off the Renewed Hope Women’s Empowerment Programme in Delta State. The launch, held in Asaba, was carried out by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, who represented the President.

The event marks a critical milestone in the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, with a clear message from the Federal Government: Nigerian women will no longer stand at the margins of progress—they will drive it.

Thousands of women, families, and vulnerable groups benefited from the initiative through the distribution of food items, including 50kg bags of rice, fabrics, and a major highlight—Solar Home Power Systems. These solar systems, the Minister said, are “bridges to opportunity,” designed to provide clean, safe, and affordable energy, improve household security, eliminate health risks from kerosene, and support women-led microenterprises.

“The Renewed Hope Women’s Empowerment Programme is not a handout—it is a hand-up,” said Sulaiman-Ibrahim. “Our goal is to empower women socially, economically, and politically. This is about transformation, not charity.”

The Minister spotlighted national initiatives under her Ministry, including:

  • PowerHer 774: Equipping 3 million women with clean energy tools and skills.

  • Nigeria for Women Project – Scale Up (NFWP-SU): In partnership with the World Bank, to impact 5 million women nationwide.

  • Happy Woman App: A digital platform for accessing government support, funding, and national marketplaces.

  • Legislative Advocacy: Promoting the Political Representation and Seat Reservation for Women Bill (HB.1349).

She praised Delta State’s commitment to gender equity, commending Governor Sheriff Oborevwori—represented by Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme—for ensuring strong female representation in both state and national assemblies.

“We are proud of Delta State for aligning with the Renewed Hope vision,” she said. “Let us rise together—women of Delta, women of Nigeria.”

Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Princess Pat Ajudua, underscored the strategic nature of the initiative, noting its potential to end gender-based violence and expand economic opportunities. “This is about partnership and empowerment, not just distribution,” she added.

The crowd of women, visibly elated, offered heartfelt gratitude to President Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for their unwavering support. Singing, dancing, and celebration marked the event, as the promise of transformation lit up the hearts and homes of Delta women.

“This is only the beginning,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim declared. “When women rise, nations thrive.”
