Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has praised the resilience and dedication of the state’s workforce, urging the protection of workers’ rights and the enhancement of working conditions across all sectors.
In a solidarity message to mark the 2025 Workers’ Day, Fubara emphasised that workers remain the driving force behind the state’s progress and a symbol of hope amid ongoing political challenges. The message was conveyed in a statement issued on Thursday in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.
Fubara reiterated that the workers' unwavering commitment is the foundation of Rivers State’s development and a sign of a brighter future. He highlighted the significance of this year’s Workers’ Day theme, “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate,” stressing the need to prioritise occupational safety and well-being in the face of environmental threats and socio-political instability.
He also acknowledged the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu for advancing labour reforms and implementing climate-conscious policies that foster safer and healthier workplaces nationwide.
The statement read in part: “Governor Fubara expressed deep gratitude to Rivers workers who, despite political turbulence and governance disruptions, continue to demonstrate patriotism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to duty, emphasising that their sacrifices form the cornerstone of the state’s stability and advancement.”
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to the welfare of workers, Fubara called on all employers—both public and private—to uphold labour laws and protect the rights and dignity of every employee. He advocated for ongoing improvements in working conditions to meet both legal obligations and ethical responsibilities.
He also offered prayers for divine guidance for leaders and pledged to continue fostering a work environment built on dignity, opportunity, and shared prosperity.
Encouraging Rivers residents to remain hopeful and united, Fubara assured them that the “forces of justice, peace, and progress will ultimately prevail.
