More than 450,000 Nigerians have applied for limited job openings in the Federal Civil Service, according to fresh information obtained by DIP Connects Online News.
The recruitment drive, announced in January 2025 by the Federal Government through the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), aimed to fill various positions across multiple departments. Over 70 roles were listed in an official newspaper advertorial signed by Ogaba Ede, Director of Recruitment and Appointment.
Some of the advertised positions included: Administrative Officer, Planning Officer, Procurement Officer, Programme Analyst, Education Officer, Senior Computer Engineer, Dentist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Nursing Officer, State Counsel, Radiographer, Fisheries Officer, Psychologist, Geologist, Foreign Affairs Officer, and Surveyor.
Other roles announced were for Assistant Education Officer, Tourism Officer, Cultural Officer, Senior Instructor, Printing Officer, Auditor, Biomedical Engineer, Aerodrome Engineer, Statistician, and Animal Health Technologist.
The application process, which required interested and qualified Nigerians to apply via the FCSC's official portal, initially had a deadline of March 10, 2025, but was later extended to March 17. However, applicants reported difficulty accessing the portal during the registration period.
Speaking anonymously, a senior official at the commission confirmed that less than 10,000 job openings were available despite the massive number of applicants.
“Over 450,000 people applied, but we have fewer than 10,000 vacancies. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you don’t receive a message, you didn’t make the shortlist,” the official explained.
The official added that successful applicants would be invited to write a Computer-Based Test (CBT) in their respective states and that results would be released immediately after the exam.
“There will be no rescheduling. It’s a one-time opportunity per candidate,” he emphasized.
When contacted for an official statement, the FCSC spokesperson, Taiwo Hassan, said that the commission would soon provide detailed updates to the public.
“We will make the information on the recruitment exercise available to the public soon,” Hassan stated.
