Ayra Starr’s Afrobeats ‘Big 3’ Leaves Out Davido and Burna Boy

Nigerian singer and songwriter Ayra Starr has sparked conversation among Afrobeats fans after revealing the three artists she considers her personal “Big 3” in the genre.

The Rush hitmaker named Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema as her “solid Big 3,” highlighting their influence and impact on the global rise of Afrobeats.

Ayra Starr’s comments stand out because discussions around the genre’s “Big 3” have traditionally centered on Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy three artists widely credited with leading Afrobeats’ international breakthrough over the past decade.

By naming Tiwa Savage and Rema alongside Wizkid, the fast-rising star offered a different perspective, recognizing the contributions of artists across generations. Tiwa Savage is widely regarded as one of the most influential female voices in Afrobeats, helping pave the way for women in the genre, while Rema has emerged as one of the new generation’s biggest global exports.

Ayra Starr also shares close musical ties with some of the artists she mentioned. She previously collaborated with Wizkid on the song Gimme Dat and teamed up with Rema on Who’s Dat Girl, further strengthening their artistic connection.

Her remarks have since generated discussion across social media, with fans debating whether the traditional “Big 3” narrative in Afrobeats should evolve as the genre continues to grow and produce new global stars.
