Nigerian superstar Davido has opened up about the next phase of his career, declaring a renewed focus on authentic African sounds after years of global success.
Speaking on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi, the award-winning singer reflected on his remarkable journey in the music industry. He highlighted his extensive global reach, sold-out performances across major arenas, and a string of accolades including multiple Grammy nominations over the past three years.
According to Davido, these achievements have given him a sense of fulfillment, prompting a shift in artistic direction. He revealed that his upcoming music will lean heavily into his African identity rather than blending with Western influences aimed at international appeal.
“This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena, I have been to three Grammys in the last three years,” he said. “The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African. We have done it so I am not really looking to really do western sounds.”
The singer also spoke about his strong fan base in South Africa, boldly claiming that “80 per cent” of the country’s population is familiar with and appreciates his music. Over the years, Davido has built deep ties with the South African music scene, collaborating with several artists and earning multiple industry certifications in the country.
