IG Disu Disburses N2.4bn to Families of Fallen Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has presented cheques totaling ₦2.4 billion to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the presentation was held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The cheques, amounting to ₦2,435,421,584.11, cover policy years 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, as well as 2024/2025 and 2025/2026, including outstanding insurance claims recovered from previous years.

Speaking at the event, the Force Insurance Officer, Lydia Ameh, said the disbursement reflects the IGP’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of officers and their families. She explained that the payments represent recoveries from long-standing insurance obligations and noted that decisive steps have been taken to ensure compliance by insurance providers and prevent delays in settling claims.

In his remarks, Disu described the ceremony as a solemn recognition of officers who died in the line of duty, stressing that personnel welfare remains a key focus of his leadership. He said the initiative goes beyond financial assistance, symbolising the Force’s enduring responsibility to honour the courage and service of fallen officers while supporting their families.

The IGP assured that efforts would be intensified to strengthen welfare systems, improve administrative efficiency, and eliminate delays in processing and disbursing benefits. He added that modern technology would be deployed to enhance transparency, streamline claims processes, and ensure accountability in welfare administration.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to its personnel, stating that the sacrifices of fallen officers remain vital to the nation’s peace, security, and stability.
