The 98th Academy Awards lit up Hollywood on Sunday night, celebrating the best films of 2025, with One Battle After Another emerging as the biggest winner of the evening.
Held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and hosted by comedian Conan O'Brien, the ceremony saw the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed film take home six awards, including the coveted Best Picture prize.
Anderson also won Best Director for the film, while Sean Penn claimed Best Supporting Actor for his role in the project. The film further secured awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Casting, a category introduced for the first time at this year’s ceremony.
In one of the night’s biggest acting victories, Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for his performance in the supernatural drama Sinners. Jordan portrayed twin brothers battling supernatural forces in the 1930s American South, delivering a dual performance that earned widespread critical acclaim.
Meanwhile, Jessie Buckley took home the Best Actress award for her role in Hamnet, while Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for Weapons.
Despite losing the top prize, Sinners remained one of the night’s most prominent films. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film entered the ceremony with the most nominations (16) and ultimately won four awards, including Best Original Screenplay for Coogler and Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson.
Other notable winners included KPop Demon Hunters for Best Animated Feature, Norway’s Sentimental Value for Best International Feature, and Mr. Nobody Against Putin, which won Best Documentary Feature.
In technical categories, Avatar: Fire and Ash won Best Visual Effects, while the racing drama F1 claimed Best Sound.
The ceremony also featured several politically charged speeches and marked a rare tie in the Best Live-Action Short Film category, adding to the memorable moments of the night.
The 2026 Oscars celebrated a diverse range of films and performances, with major wins spread across blockbuster productions, independent films, and international cinema.
