Ogun Schools Warn 700,000 Students May Miss WASSCE Over New Digital Registration Glitch

Private school proprietors in Ogun State have raised alarm that as many as 700,000 students could be unable to sit for the forthcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) due to challenges linked to a newly introduced identification requirement.

The school owners said the state government’s enforcement of a mandatory Learner Identification Number (LIN) for examination registration has triggered widespread administrative difficulties, warning that nearly 70 per cent of SS3 candidates in private schools may be affected if urgent action is not taken.

According to them, the issue stems from the migration from the old OGSERA education platform to a new digital system known as DIPER, which is responsible for generating student identification numbers. They explained that technical glitches have prevented many students — including those previously issued valid LINs from accessing or verifying their details ahead of registration deadlines.

The proprietors appealed to the Ogun State Government to either postpone enforcement of the policy or extend the registration timeline while resolving the technical setbacks.

Responding to the concerns, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu, said the policy is aimed at sanitising the examination process by ensuring proper documentation of all students in the state’s education system. He acknowledged the existence of technical challenges but stressed that authorities remain committed to implementing reforms designed to strengthen examination integrity.

Stakeholders warn that unless swift intervention is made, thousands of candidates could be prevented from participating in the examination cycle.
