The Presidency has dismissed as false a viral social media claim alleging a plot to poison President Bola Tinubu, describing the report as fabricated and misleading.
The rumour, which circulated widely online, alleged that a kitchen staff member at the Presidential Villa had been arrested for attempting to poison the President. The claim was accompanied by a short video suggesting security operatives intercepted a suspected plot linked to food preparation within the presidential residence.
Reacting, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga issued a firm denial via his verified X account, stating that no kitchen staff had been arrested and no such incident occurred. He urged Nigerians to disregard the report, describing it as fake news.
Officials further clarified that no security agency has confirmed any arrest, investigation, or threat related to poisoning allegations at the seat of power, popularly known as Aso Rock.
Authorities warned that spreading unverified information could trigger unnecessary panic and undermine public trust, advising citizens to rely on credible and official sources for updates.
As of the time of filing this report, there is no indication of any threat to the President’s safety, and he continues to carry out official duties normally.
