Soludo Sworn In for Second Term as Anambra Governor After Landslide Election Victory

Professor Charles Soludo has been sworn in for a second term as Governor of Anambra State, following a decisive electoral victory.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital. Soludo took the oath of office alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, in an event that attracted prominent political figures from across the country.

Representing the Federal Government was Vice President Kashim Shettima. Also in attendance were former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, alongside former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and several other governors.

Soludo’s re-election followed a landslide victory in the November 8, 2025 governorship poll conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission. He secured 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 99,445 votes.

The Young Progressives Party candidate, Paul Chukwuma, finished third with 37,753 votes, in an election contested by 16 candidates across various political parties.

The scale of Soludo’s victory was further underscored by his sweep of all 21 local government areas in the state. Out of 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 were accredited, with 595,298 total votes cast and 11,244 rejected ballots recorded statewide.

The renewed mandate signals continued public confidence in Soludo’s leadership as he begins another term in office.
