A tragic accident on Sunday claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State. The victim was reportedly struck by a Mercedes-Benz tipper truck, which was unregistered, authorities confirmed.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo, told newsmen in Akure on Monday that the truck driver has been arrested, and the vehicle recovered for further inspection.
“The Police Command in Ondo State regrets to confirm a fatal motor accident in Akungba-Akoko, resulting in the death of a nine-year-old girl. She was immediately rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead by a medical doctor,” Jimoh said.
The PPRO added that an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that justice would be served.
Jimoh also urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies. “A thorough investigation has commenced to unravel the cause of the accident and ensure accountability,” he stated.
