A viral video involving Nollywood stars Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham has stirred renewed conversation across the entertainment scene after what many online users described as an awkward moment between the two actresses at a recent film premiere.
The incident reportedly took place during the premiere of The Return of Arinzo, hosted by actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo at the Balmoral Event Centre in Lagos.
In the now-circulating footage, Toyin Abraham is seen walking toward Funke Akindele, seemingly in a bid to greet her. However, Akindele appeared not to respond or acknowledge the approach, keeping her attention fixed elsewhere during the brief moment.
Shortly after, Abraham was seen moving on from the encounter and exchanging greetings with Iyabo Ojo before leaving that section of the venue.
The clip has since triggered a wave of reactions on social media, with many viewers offering differing interpretations of what transpired. While some users described the moment as an intentional snub, others argued that the exchange may have been misunderstood or taken out of context, insisting that the full circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
The viral moment has also revived long-standing public speculation about a possible rivalry between the two popular actresses, a topic that has surfaced repeatedly over the years within Nollywood circles.
Back in 2024, Toyin Abraham had addressed such claims, dismissing reports of tension between herself and Funke Akindele. She attributed much of the narrative to rumours and the competitive nature of the entertainment industry, while also stressing that both actresses had grown beyond such perceptions and could thrive without being cast as rivals.
Speculation about a strained relationship between the pair dates back to 2021, particularly after the release of Abraham’s film The Ghost and the Tout Too, which sparked comparisons between both stars, especially in relation to their box office success.
