A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Maharazu, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment after being found guilty of drug-related offences and violently resisting arrest during an operation in Kano State.
The conviction was secured by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, at the Federal High Court in Kano. Justice S.M. Shuaibu delivered the judgment on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, ordering that the sentence take immediate effect without an option of fine.
Maharazu was arrested on February 14, 2026, during an NDLEA raid at Filin Idi, an area described as a known drug hotspot in Kano. During the operation, he allegedly attempted to resist arrest by brandishing a long knife and attacking operatives.
He was eventually subdued, disarmed, and taken into custody before being charged to court.
Reacting to the ruling, the Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, DY Lawal, commended the court for what he described as a firm and reassuring judgment.
The agency said the verdict underscores its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug-related crimes across the country.
