The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has announced a major hosting change ahead of its 12th edition, unveiling Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as co-hosts for the 2026 ceremony.
The development marks the end of the long-running tenure of IK Osakioduwa, who has anchored the prestigious awards show for 11 consecutive editions since its inception in 2013, becoming one of its most recognisable faces.
The 12th edition of the AMVCA is scheduled for May 9, 2026, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, signalling one of the most significant presentation changes in the history of the event.
Bovi described his new role as a major honour, highlighting the scale and prestige of the platform.
“The AMVCA stage is one of the biggest in Africa, and I don’t take that lightly,” he said. “I want to bring the energy, the laughs, and the magic that this night deserves.”
Mbatha, an internationally acclaimed actress, producer, and UNHCR goodwill ambassador, is known for her roles in Coming 2 America and the epic series Shaka iLembe, where she also serves as executive producer.
Meanwhile, veteran actress Joke Silva has been named head judge for this year’s edition.
Organisers also revealed that Gingerrr and The Herd lead this year’s nominations with nine nods each, followed by To Kill A Monkey with eight nominations, while My Father’s Shadow secured seven nods across major categories.
The latest changes set the stage for a refreshed AMVCA ceremony, as the event continues to spotlight Africa’s fastest-growing film and television industry.
