Arise News Analyst Chiogo Ikokwu Quits Media for Politics, Eyes House of Reps Seat

Respected Arise News anchor and analyst, Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, has announced a leave of absence from journalism as she transitions into active politics.

Dr. Ikokwu, widely regarded for her strong track record in holding power to account and amplifying public interest issues, said her decision was driven by firsthand exposure to governance gaps and a growing conviction that capable professionals must move beyond observation to direct participation.

She is seeking an opportunity to represent the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

According to her, the move marks a continuation of service on a different platform.

“This transition is, for me, a continuation of service, just on a different platform. I have had the privilege of telling the stories that shape our nation, holding power to account, amplifying underrepresented voices, and helping citizens make sense of complex issues,” she said.

Reflecting on her career, she noted that her experience as a journalist has deepened her understanding of Nigeria’s governance challenges and opportunities, while reinforcing her belief in the need for informed and ethical leadership.

“It is from this vantage point that I have made the difficult but necessary decision to step into the political arena,” she added.

Dr. Ikokwu further emphasised that her work in the media connected her directly with the realities faced by Nigerians, including their frustrations, resilience, and aspirations.

“I have seen firsthand where policy succeeds and where it falls short, and I believe that those who understand these gaps must be willing to step forward and help close them. Politics should not be left only to career politicians; it must also be shaped by individuals with fresh ideas, integrity, and a genuine commitment to public service,” she stated.

She expressed hope that her decision would inspire more Nigerians with the capacity, ideas, and commitment to national development to actively participate in politics.

Describing the moment as critical for the country, Dr. Ikokwu said Nigeria requires courage, responsibility, and collective action to achieve meaningful progress.
