Scott Parker has left his role as head coach of Burnley FC by mutual consent following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
Burnley confirmed in a statement on Thursday that both parties had “mutually agreed that his time at Turf Moor would conclude” after just one season back in the English top flight.
Parker, who guided the Clarets to promotion during the 2024/25 Championship campaign, endured a difficult Premier League return, with the team managing only four league wins. Their relegation was confirmed on April 22 after a 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City.
The 45-year-old, who previously managed Fulham, Bournemouth, and Club Brugge, had signed a three-year contract in July 2024, succeeding Vincent Kompany.
Despite the challenging season, Parker’s earlier success included a remarkable promotion campaign featuring a 31-match unbeaten run and 30 clean sheets. However, Burnley have conceded 68 goals in 34 league matches this season the highest in the league and suffered early exits from both the FA Cup and League Cup at the hands of third-tier opposition.
“The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Scott for his professionalism, dedication and contribution,” Burnley said, adding that he departs with the respect and gratitude of the club.
In his response, Parker described his time at the club as an “immense privilege.”
“I have enjoyed every moment of our journey together, but feel that now is the right time for both parties to move in a different direction,” he said. “I reflect with great pride on what we achieved, especially our unforgettable promotion season, and it was a true honour to lead this team into the Premier League.”
Burnley also announced that assistant coach Mike Jackson will take charge for the club’s remaining four Premier League fixtures, starting with Friday’s clash against Leeds United.
The club confirmed that the process of appointing a new permanent head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season is already underway.
